The Kulshan Community Land Trust in Whatcom County, WA holds land in trust for permanently affordable homeownership and other community needs. They hosted a community charrette for a Planned Development Agreement for 28 affordable housing units in the Madrona and LaFayette neighborhood. Neighbors, activists, stakeholders and government officials were participants in the process to find an innovative way to provide working families with affordable housing. Focus was on higher density for better affordability, while blending with an existing neighborhood fabric. The final design concept received unanimous approval.
